The company was set up more than 35 years ago to manage the Doha Gulf Hotel, currently known as the Doha Marriott Hotel. Katara Hospitality was officially established in 1993 under a new Emiri decree to capitalise on the growth potential of Qatar’s tourism industry.

Katara Hospitality’s interests cover a wide spectrum of the hospitality sector including ownership of 4 and 5-star hotels and the company is presently focusing on becoming one of the leading hotel management companies in the region with its Merweb brand, the first local branded hotel chain. Today Katara Hospitality owns and manages more than 4,000 hotel rooms, already operational or under construction.

Katara Hospitality’s network, based on its hospitality expertise, has successfully expanded into the countries surrounding the region, initiated by the acquisition of the Renaissance Golden View Beach Resort in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, in 2006.

The company’s depth of expertise is admirably demonstrated by its ability to manage multiple hotel chains under one asset management company.
